Nestlé's Environmental Damage in Michigan
Terri Swier of Michigan's Citizens for Water Conservation visited southern Maine this
past week to speak about Michigan residents' 8-year legal battle in the Michigan courts
to protect their local environment from harm caused by Nestlé's large scale
groundwater extraction operations.

Why should I be concerned about the large scale groundwater extraction ordinance
being put forth by the Board of Selectmen?
This document explains the possible drawbacks that the large-scale water extraction ordinance might
have on the water supply of your home or your business, regardless of whether you have a well or are
connected to the water district. The document is also available as a trifold pamphlet for distribution.

Welcome to the Protect Wells Water Web site
Large Scale Water Extraction to be Decided by Wells Voters on November 3rd.
In September, the Wells selectmen voted 4 to 1 to place their flawed and unnecessary large scale water
extraction ordinance on the November 3rd ballot. If Wells residents vote to enact this proposed ordinance,
the Planning Board will have to grant an extraction permit to any applicant that meets the application
requirements of the ordinance.

The Town's current Land Use ordinance
prohibits large scale water extraction. Therefore, if voters defeat
the selectmen's flawed and unnecessary ordinance, our current Land Use ordinance will still be in effect;
and, the Planning Board will have to deny a site permit to any such water extractor applicant. When the
applicant can't present a Town of Wells site permit to the DEP, the DEP will not grant the applicant a DEP
extraction permit.  End of Story. -- No Town site permit => no DEP extraction permit => no extraction.
Wells residents say "NO!" to large scale water extraction
A June/July, 2009, survey of Wells residents indicates that the Town does not want to permit large scale
water extraction.
